Members of the public beta program can install iOS 10.1 Beta 2
Apple has rolled out the second beta of iOS 10.1 to testers through the public beta testing program. iOS 10.1 Beta 2 brings minor improvements and fixes over Beta 1, coming less than a month after Apple released the official update to iOS 10 for all supported devices.
The update is available to download over-the-air through the standard update path for all members of the beta program. To join the testing program you need to sign up on the website. Keep in mind that these betas can include some annoying bugs, so think twice before installing them on a daily device.
Apple is introducing with iOS 10.1 a special portrait mode that is exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus and its dual-lens camera module. This portrait mode allows you to create nice close-up photos with a software-simulated bokeh effect which mimics the effect produced if you’ve used an expensive DSLR camera.
The software analyses the information coming from both sensors, recognizing people and focusing on them while blurring the background.
Along with the portrait mode, iOS 10.1 fixes some bugs of the Messaging app and improves the overall performance. Currently, we don’t know officially if the LTE problems with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been fixed in this update.
