LG Innotek to produce the dual-lens camera for iPhone 7
Bloomberg and Business Korea have posted new stories about the upcoming iPhone 7. According to Bloomberg and their sources, iPhone 7 for AT&T and some other carriers around the globe will be equipped with the Intel’s LTE modems, while the Verizon’s version will use the traditional Qualcomm chips. The report also reveals that Intel may supply around 50% of the modems for the iPhone, after Apple and Intel worked closely together on optimizing the chipsets for the upcoming 2016 devices. This rumor was indirectly confirmed by the Qualcomm’s boss himself who said that a major portion of the modem orders could be for another company.
Meanwhile, a report from Korea shed more light on the iPhone’s camera. Business Korea writes that the shipments of the dual-lens camera for the iPhone 7 could begin as soon as this month, and the supplier is LG Innotek. It seems that Sony and its lens production were hit more seriously by the earthquake than expected, because the Japanese won’t be able to deliver any camera modules for Apple before the end of 2016. However, Apple may again diversify its supply chain and work with more than one camera module producers in 2017.
Rumors so far indicated that only the bigger iPhone 7 Plus will get the new dual-lens camera module, while the regular iPhone 7 will see some modest improvements in terms of camera, though it may finally get optical image stabilization.
