Apple may be working on a three-lens camera for iPhone 2019.
This year, we don’t expect any major changes coming to the iPhone line, if not counting the possible ‘Plus’ version of the iPhone X. But for 2019, Apple may be preparing something interesting for mobile photo enthusiasts to compete with Huawei and their triple-lens camera on the P20 Pro.
For many buyers, the camera capabilities is the most important area to consider when choosing a new flagship phone. Samsung, Google and Apple have been leading this game for a while, but a new star has just risen from China.
With the help of Leica, Huawei now has arguably the best smartphone camera in the class. The P20 Pro easily outscored the competition in the DxoMark list thanks to its main camera system that consists of three lenses with different focal length and aperture, and three sensors. This allows Huawei P20 Pro owners to use 3x optical zoom and take excellent images even in extremely difficult lighting conditions.
But a new report at the Economic Daily claims that Apple is designing its own three-lens camera that will be unveiled next year. The report says that Apple’s iPhone for 2019 will have a 5x zoom, which may be a combination of optical and digital zoom.
A possible three camera lenses on the back would further boost the excellent imaging capabilities of the iPhone. What do you think about the trend of adding additional lenses to improve the performance of the smartphone cameras?
