How to back up contacts & photos and switch from iPhone to Android

Back up contacts, photos and calendars with Google Drive.

If you have an Android phone or tablet, and you want to transfer all your contacts, images and calendar from iPhone / iPad, then Google Drive is here to help you make a painless transition. No more cables and a long process of copying files, creating and uploading backups. Google Drive for iOS does all the hard work instead of you. Here are the steps to switch from iOS to Android:

  1. Download and install the Google Drive app on iOS.

  2. Run Google Drive, sign in using your account. Create an account if you don’t have one.

  3. Open the app menu and tap on ‘Settings’.

  4. Select ‘Backup’.

  5. Select things you want to include in the backup. Use the toggle switch to turn on/off items.

  6. Once you’ve selected the items, tap ‘Start Backup’ to initiate the backup process.

  7. Wait until the information from your iOS device syncs with the cloud. The more media files you have on the device, the longer the process will be. Use a stable WiFi connection for creating backups.

  8. On the Android phone/tablet: Sign-in with the account you’ve used to create the backup with Google Drive. All information* will be transferred from the backup to your new phone.

*It’s important to know that messages and audio files are not supported yet, but an update for the Google Drive app could enable these options in the future.
